Bird Boxes

The Wood Pigeons were having a romantic canoodle on the piggery roof this morning which reminded me that it was time to put the bird boxes up, and that is what I have done this morning. The sun is shining but it is ******* cold!

Not Fair!

Today the rest of the country is bathed in bright sunshine, yet we are covered in frost and a dense fog!!! The female pheasant was at my side while I fed the birds this morning.

Almost Spring

The Willow Tree thinks that it is almost Spring as it is starting to send out Pussy Willow buds. The Blue Bell leaves are above ground. We had sunshine today and there was quite some warmth in the rays. I saw a Kestrel in the Rowan tree.

Sheep

Sheep have arrived in the fields between us and the Creamery. It is wonderful to see them. I hope we will have lambs soon.

Snow and Pheasants.

Woke to a white world this morning. The birds were desperately hungry. I watched the pheasants scratching in the snow for seeds and took pity o them and went out in the snow to feed them. A female pheasant remained close by in the bushes while I put the seed in the feeders. I threw some seed to her which landed a few feet from me and she must have been so hungry as she overcame all fear and pecked at the seed while I continued to fill the feeders. It was quite an amazing experience! The snow is not due to last and should be rain by lunchtime.

An Icy New Year

There was a wonderful sunset last night but I can't find the cable to download my photos from my phone camera! We have a green icy world. Yesterday it rained and the water froze on contact with the ground. Had a scary drive on ice, losing it once and having to engage 4 wheel drive to get up a very icy hill. It poured with rain last night on top of the ice in the splash pool and we had gusting winds too. Snow is forecast for Friday!. Interesting birds in the garden, seen a Jay which is a woodland bird and common in London but not here! The pheasants are frequent visitors as well as the Ringed Doves, Buntings, Yellow Hammers, Green Finches, Black Birds, Wood Pigeons, Crows, Woodpeckers etc.
